Courting the disappearing light

Andy, Derrick and Chris at the first stop.

Inclement weather settling in.

A lone woodcutter

Slip sliding away at Minerva station.

The group at Byrne (left to right). Yours truly, Lize, Ben, Derrick, Chris.

Climbing up the route for the start of the HelaHela race. A typical Waddilove ‘gentle climb’.

The first major detour of the day.

The Umzimkhulu Valley. First to cycle to the bottom of the valley & then climb out.

The descent continues, interspersed with many an uphill.

Climbing en route down into the valley.

Virgin, never been ridden before single track

Fire but no refreshment to boost ones flagging energy levels before the HelaHela climb.

The bridge at the start of the climb.

The rocks fall because it’s so steep

Legs taking strain.

Safely in Allandale, ready for Dana’s generous cooking.

Tomorrow: Donnybrook and on to Nstikeni.

Find your line. Go beyond it.
